Looking for a good resource to further your study of God’s Word? Wayne Grudem’s Systematic Theology: An Introduction to Biblical Doctrine would make an excellent addition to your library.

Extra Resource: Free MP3s from Grudem’s Systematic Theology Class.

What is systematic theology? Grudem says the following:

“Many different definitions have been given, but for the purposes of this book the following definition will be used: Systematic theology is any study that answers the question, ‘What does the whole Bible teach us today?’ about any given topic. This definition indicates that systematic theology involves collecting and understanding all the relevant passages in the Bible on various topics and then summarizing their teachings clearly so that we know what to believe about each topic.”

This introduction to systematic theology has several distinctive features:

A strong emphasis on the scriptural basis for each doctrine and teaching

Clear writing, with technical terms kept to a minimum

A contemporary approach, treating subjects of special interest to the church today

Frequent application to life

Resources for worship with each chapter

Bibliographies with each chapter that cross-reference subjects to a wide range of other systematic theologies

I find it to be a valuable resource and I certainly agree with the following review from Monergism:

“Consulting Grudem is a pleasure. Even though I do not agree with every point made by Grudem, I highly recommend his Systematic Theology. This is because it is so easy to understand and covers virtually every important topic–even topics that other systematics don’t cover. I have no problem saying that this is the clearest, most accessible systematic theology I have ever read! Grudem has a gift for communication. He lays out the details in terms that are easy to understand. The format of this work is beautiful and highly recommended for beginners.”
–B. K. Campbell
